The Romanian Football Federation finally informed, on Monday, June 27, 2022, the result of the certification process of the clubs with the right to participate in the new season of League 2, edition 2022-2023.
Except for the newcomers from League 3, who later started the process of obtaining the “Certificate for participation in League 2”, among those who evolved in the second echelon in the recently concluded season met the minimum conditions for participation in the new season 14 teams , three of them even the minimum conditions to evolve in League 1, but they did not get the promotion in this echelon.
Gaz Metan Mediaș and Academica Clinceni do not have certification for League 2
Only one of the three relegated teams in League 1 has the right to play in League 2 in the new season, 2022-2023 edition. It is about Dinamo, which had obtained the license for League 1, so implicitly it also obtained the “Certificate for participation in League 2”, a lower process than for the first echelon.
On the other hand, the relegated Gaz Metan Mediaș and Academica Clinceni, which did not obtain the League 1 license, do not have the League 2 certification, so they will not evolve in the second echelon and if they continue their activity and do not they will be disbanded because of the serious financial problems they now have.
The FRF Licensing Administration did not inform whether the two clubs submitted the file for obtaining the League 1 license, respectively the certification for League 2 or did not meet the required criteria.
All the teams that have obtained this right in sports continue in League 2
In League 2, sportsmen obtained the right to continue 12 clubs out of the 20 that evolved in the recently concluded season: Steaua București, Concordia Chiajna, Unirea Slobozia, FK Miercurea Ciuc, FC Buzău, Unirea Dej, CS Comunal Șelimbăr, Metaloglobus București, Politehnica Iași, Viitorul Pandurii Târgu Jiu, Ripensia Timișoara and FC Brașov.
Three of them, Concordia Chiajna, Unirea Slobozia and FC Buzău, obtained the League 1 license, so, implicitly, the certificate for participation in League 2. The other eight, Steaua, FK Miercurea Ciuc, Unirea Dej, CS Comunal Șelimbăr, Metaloglobus, Politehnica Iași, Viitorul Pandurii Târgu Jiu, Ripensia Timișoara and FC Brașov also obtained the certificate.
The relegations Politehnica Timişoara and Unirea Constanţa continue in League 2
As Gaz Metan and Academica Clinceni are not among the teams with a certificate of participation in League 2, there are practically two vacancies left in the new season.
They will be occupied by two of the five relegated sports in the second echelon. These are Politehnica Timișoara, which lost the maintenance dam with FC Brașov, and Unirea Constanța, directly demoted.
Politehnica Timișoara and Unirea Constanța also obtained the “Certificate for participation in League 2”, informs the Licensing Administration of FRF.
The other three relegated are Dunărea Călărași, Dacia Unirea Brăila and Astra, about which FRF does not announce if they have submitted their file and have not met the minimum criteria to continue in League 2 in case vacancies will appear. From the information Liga2.ro, none of the three wanted to continue in the second echelon even if this possibility had arisen. For this reason, they did not even submit their file for obtaining the League 2 certification.
CS Hunedoara, the first to be invited to League 2 if a third vacancy occurs
From League 3 to League 2, five teams promoted: SC Oțelul Galați, Progresul Spartac, CSM Slatina, CSC Dumbrăvița and Minaur Baia Mare. The certification process for the second echelon takes longer.
The teams Dante Botoșani, CS Tunari, AFC Odorheiu Secuiesc, CSM Reșița and CS Hunedoara missed the promotion in League 2. If new vacancies appear in the second echelon, the FRF will invite them, depending on the additional tie-breaking criteria established shortly before the play-off matches.
In the event that one or more of the teams listed above, those who have obtained the “Certificate for participation in League 2”, will face problems in the next period and will not register in the new season of the second echelon, 2022-2023, then FRF will fill the vacancy or vacancies with the following losing promotions, in the following order: CS Hunedoara, AFC Odorheiu Secuiesc, CSM Reșița, Dante Botoșani and CS Tunari.
Season with 20 teams, only round-robin matches and play-off and play-out tournaments with round-robin games in the new edition of League 2
From the information Liga2.rothe new season of League 2, 2022-2023, is announced to be one that will take place in a proportion of 90 percent in the same way as the recently concluded one.
It will be a regular season with only round matches, 19 in number, after which the first six ranked go in the playoffs, and the other 14 teams will be divided into two play-out groups.
The only difference would be the fact that round-trip matches will be played in the play-out, as it happened now in the play-off. In the 2021-2022 edition, only round matches were played in the play-out groups.
