Passages from Adrian Mutu’s autobiographical book
“… The first days of December 2004. I was Adrian Mutu, a football player with a weekly salary as a movie star, with a latest car and performance bonuses. I lived in London, a city that would swallow you whole if you didn’t play the game of offside, newly divorced, without the possibility of seeing my two-year-old son, without real friends, but with a picture on the front page of the tabloids that sold, daily, 800,000 numbers.
The one in front of me was Peter Kay, one of the co-founders of Sporting Chance, the rehabilitation clinic I was in after being tested positive for cocaine following an anti-doping test by my team, Chelsea London.“, appears in the book.
… “From a football standpoint, things were going well. […] But in the back, London was ‘stealing’ me. I was a 23-year-old man, divorced, and the longing for Mario, my eldest son, whom I did not see, was crushing me. We had no friends, and my parents came, stayed for a few days, then left. The city was crazy, noise from morning to evening, the noise only ended around 2 in the morning.
Yes I made a mistake! Once in a while, a few times a little slower and I will never hide in acknowledging this. I had terrible times, I was alone, I wished him ‘Good night!’ depression. But I had the strength to come back, to start from the infinite minus, to fight, to prove that my life was not shut at the age of 24.
… But I never betrayed two things: football and the country. The first because I was fighting, proud, I always wanted to win, aware that if I fooled him, he would someday turn against me like a boomerang. Secondly, because the hymn heard dozens of times is the most beautiful thing in the world, believe me!
… Thursday was our ‘outing’ day, we had a club in the center, we were relaxing there. When I was taking my first step inside and the DJ saw me, the music stopped: ‘Guys, let’s greet Adrian Mutu who came here! ‘Il Fenomeno’ is with us! ‘ Almost a minute later, the whole nightclub shouted ‘Il Fenomeno, Il Fenomeno’, people who had never been to a stadium before. “. there are a few other passages in the book.
